As always for the Winter Solstice I like start and end my day on the hills and the Sunset hike is the best way to say goodbye to the shortest day of the year. It’s a time of the year that was very important in our ancestors calendar so with this in mind we will make our way up the hill and over to the Cross on Barnavave to watch the Sun setting. From there we will make our way down under the darkening sky to the Deserted Village where we will pause at the Megalithic Tomb and take a moment to remember the traditions and stories of the past. This is a gorgeous hike regardless of the weather and is doable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness but it will be uneven mountain terrain with steep sections so proper footwear and clothing are required. Torches also 🙂 No jeans or runners.
