Sunset & Full Moon Hike
11 June 2025 @ 8:45 pm – 11:45 pm
The monthly Full Moon hikes continue with the Strawberry Moon. This month we will be heading up to the Cross on Barnavave in our beautiful Cooley Mountains to watch the Sun setting below the horizon. We will be taking a route that brings us through a magical Deserted Village and up Maebh’s Gap. From the Cross we will will make our way along the ridge to the “healing rock” to sit and wait for the Moon to rise over Carlingford Lough. Then we will take a lovely trail down the hill and back to our starting point under the night sky. This is a really nice hike and although the views on a clear day are truly wonderful it does not depend on them to make it! The first part of this route does have a good hill and uneven mountain terrain but it is doable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Proper footwear and clothing are required as is a torch for the way home. A snack and drink is always nice to have while we sit and watch the Sun and moon 🙂 No jeans or runners please.
Duration: 3 hours approx
Difficulty: Reasonable fitness required
Meeting Point: The parking area near the Deserted Village on the South Commons Road, Carlingford, Co. Louth
